La Mercerie

I met my friend Diana for lunch on Friday at La Mercerie in SoHo, a chic/store restaurant where Ina Garten is said to eat lunch.
We sat outside on a perfect fall day and ate daintily and exquisitely, like the ladies that we are. Diana had the quiche (would you believe that I’ve never ordered/eaten or made quiche in my life? It used to be such a gay cliché that gay men ate quiche and it’s never appealed to me, though I do like frittatas):
That quiche looked and tasted textbook perfect. I had the Salad Nicoise, my second of the week, and it was artfully presented:
But the best part was the dessert. We thought we were ordering the lightest, most sensible dessert by choosing the puff pastry with strawberries and whipped cream. Then this came out!
The key component that took it over-the-top was the pistachio cream which was *chefs kiss.* If you’re looking for a lovely lunch spot in the city, look no further.
