Theodora
[From the 7/26/24 newsletter]
On Tuesday night, I went with my friend Daniel to dinner at Theodora — the hot new restaurant from the owners of Miss Ada in Fort Greene.
The dish above was a gift from the kitchen because my friend Toby’s brother Misha works there — though Misha wasn’t there that night.
The gift was incredible: kind of like a melon gazpacho with a cucumber granita in the middle? It was so refreshing and perfect on a hot day.
My favorite course may have been this cucumber stone fruit salad with salsa macha:
The salsa is made with chipotle chilies and nuts and it’s like the Mexican equivalent to chili crisp. The heat and the crunch is marvelous.
The food at Theodora is cooked over an open-fire and we had front row seats because we were at the chef’s counter.
The seeded laffa came with a deeply charred eggplant puree:
Toby told us to get the swordfish belly skewer, and it didn’t disappoint.
And the chicken (lead pic) was superb: way better than any grilled chicken I’ve attempted at home. The way that they get the outside so crisp and keep the inside moist… they should teach a seminar.
And finally, for dessert, we shared the chocolate cake which completely hit the spot.
Loved Theodora. If you get a chance to go… do!
